Five Bible Verses on Other Gods

1. Deuteronomy 6:14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you-

In Deuteronomy we are told to not go after the other gods, the gods of the people around us. What are the gods of the people around us? In Biblical times this may have been actual other deities like Baal. However in modern times this very much relates to our culture. Who is the god of most people? It's themselves. And this has been turning into an actual religion, which is often referred to generally as alternative spirituality or the new age movement. These people have many good beliefs, like morality, truth, and spiritual connection with the world. However, I have often seen that these people consider themselves to be god. They believe their thoughts create the universe, when it is the mind of God that creates the universe. It is true we were made in God's image and may in the next life have god-like powers, but that's for later. With most people they put almost everything before god. Television, radio, media, style, fashion, politics, sports, and just about everything else. What is more important to you? God or the things of the world? Many of us go through the motions of church and scripture yet don't live Christian lives.

2. Exodus 23:13 Pay attention to all that I have said to you, and make no mention of the names of other gods, nor let it be heard on your lips.

Exodus in the Old Testament is a wonderful book, it contains great adventures and great wisdom! This quote says pay attention! Pay attention to what? To what God says to us, through scripture. Do not even make mention of your other gods, food, drugs, alcohol, tv, football. Do not speak of these things, but speak of the Lord. Through focusing on God we can make sure that's where our focus is in our lives, and not on other things. Talking football or sitcoms isn't going to earn you a ticket to hell. But make sure it's certain what's first in your life.

3. Deuteronomy 32:17 They sacrificed to demons that were no gods, to gods they had never known, to new gods that had come recently, whom your fathers had never dreaded.

So who are these other gods of the Old Testament? Many of them were demons trying to create false religions. So yes, these other "gods" do sometimes actually exist. As far as the new world order goes, it is said they often commune with the devil himself. Whether that is true or not, I'll leave that up to research and fact of those concerned. If you are curious look into it. How many other religions are there in the world? Many! Some of them were just men elevated to god status, and others may have been inspired by demons. These things are real! Do not fear these machinations, but do not be misled by them either. God loves us completely, and God has never had a single thought of fear regarding these false gods and false prophets. Many will come in the end times, and they may even perform miracles to convince us. We must look to scripture to verify in these ends time when one proclaims himself to be the Christ.

4. Isaiah 44:6 Thus says the Lord , the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: "I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.

There is no other god but God! I'm not going to get into the distinction between Christ and God at this point. But we are told Christ is the King of Israel! God is the Lord of us all. There are no other gods. We are not gods. We do not will things to happen on our own. However, we can will things to happen through Christ our savior. He told us that should we pray something earnestly and believe it without doubt, it will be given to us.

5. Deuteronomy 28:14 And if you do not turn aside from any of the words that I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

Once again in this piece from Deuteronomy we are told to serve no other gods but the one true God. We are also reminded to not sway to the left or to the right. Walking the wrong direction is something we do very easily as humans! Our hearts are naturally fickle. But God wants our love. And he deserves our full love. So always watch carefully your steps, because Satan is out there like a roaming lion looking for ones to deceive and mislead.
