Ten Fascinating Movies for Eccentric Thinkers

If you're someone who likes a good movie that stimulates the mind as well as the sense, then this list is what you've been looking for. What we have here is a collection of weird, insane, spiritual, philosophical, post-modern confusion laced with thought and beauty that will have you wondering hours after the movie ends. Have a look:

10. Moon - This is a movie about a man who took a job on the moon to monitor certain mining equipment. The truth about his stay there will blow your mind!

9. Into the Wild - Well this is just one of those movies that makes you want to be a better person. A person you were when you were younger and more idealistic. Directed by Penn, the visuals are truly stunning. The character and his journey will grab you, and you won't want to let go.

8. Where the Buffalo Roam - This is a movie from the 1970s. With Bill Murray playing the renegade journalist Hunter Thompson on his journey beyond the late 60s and into a time when America was just beginning to fall into demise; the performance was savage, raw and brilliant.

7. The Butterfly Effect - This one will always stand out in my mind as a very powerful journey for one man to discover his past and face the future. Time travel in this one. Aston Kutcher isn't my favorite actor, but hes great in this gem.

6. Logan's Run - an oldie but a goodie, let me tell you. Here we have a society where people have lost touch with each other. One man makes his way out, to try and find something better.

5. A Scanner Darkly - just the fact that there is a movie based on that beautiful novel by Philip K. Dick is enough to garner quite a following. Here we have Keanu Reeves, Woody Harrelson, and Robert Downey Jr as a gang of drug freaks who fall into something they can't understand. The weird is everywhere in this one.

4. Waking Life - Wow, truly the only response that begins to do this movie any justice. This movie is ripe with philosophical discussion that will have your mind far into the sky. I actually had to stop the movie halfway through, just to process everything they were talking about. The eerie visuals of a dream world reality really make it something special.

3. The Fountain - Here we have Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weicz engaged in a desperate romance, but time is running out. The visuals in this enchanted me. The story takes place in three parallel worlds that metaphor each other. It's hard to understand, but the love story is truly compelling.

2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - The movie follows almost exactly the events in the original book by Hunter Thompson. Director Terry Gilliam did a wonderful job of creating a late 60s feel to the entire movie. Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro gave incredible performances. These performances were possibly the best of their careers. The search for the American dream is the theme here.

1. Donnie Darko - Finally we come to the gem of this list. Donnie Darko exists on so many plains of reality, it's hard for even the brightest individuals to figure out quite whats going on. I don't want to spoil it for you, but it includes falling jet engines and the end of the world. Sounds fun right?

These are some of the strangest and most moving dramas I've seen. I highly suggest you rent these wonderful movies and feed your mind some curious paradoxes.
