Five Bible Verses on Christ's Sacrifice

The sacrifice of Christ for our sins in the New Testament created a new covenant between God and humanity. It was a sacrifice for all time that did and would forgive all sins for all time. There are many verses in the Bible that mention God's sacrifice of Jesus, and how we are to receive it. These are some of the best that I've found.

1. John 3:16:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

This is the most read verse in the entire Bible. It states in the plainest terms the sacrifice that Jesus made for our salvation. Jesus was called the "lamb of God" by John the baptist. In the old covenant between God and humans animals were sacrificed to atone for sins. Jesus was the lamb of God, the sacrifice that would redeem the world forever. It outlines God's love for humanity and his gift that redeemed us from our sins.

2. Eph 2:8: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God"

Grace is a manifestation of forgiveness and love from our creator. Grace is a gift from God, as stated in the verse. It states that we have been saved by the grace we receive from God. It also mentions faith. But it tells us our faith in God does not come from ourselves. In fact even the faith we have for our maker is a gift from him. The only thing required from us is obedience. God gave us free will, to choose his way or the ways of sin. We can still choose to not receive the faith we can have, but either way it comes from God.

3. Rom 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

This quote from Romans tells us that what will receive from a life of sin is death. This was the way of the old covenant between God and humanity. We could not curb our sinning and what awaited us was death. Once again forgiveness and eternal life is shown as a priceless gift from God through Jesus. Make special note that the word "in" is used in relation to Christ. This probably refers to that fact that the ways of Christ must live within us.

4. Mark 6:51: " Immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed"

This verse from Mark refers to the well known instance in the Bible when several of the apostles went out fishing and were caught in a storm. Just before their boat was overturned they saw Jesus walking on the water. The storm stopped and Jesus came onto the boat. The metaphor here is a powerful one. Our lives are filled with trouble, chaos, and "storms" of difficulty. We see that at our greatest points of danger and fear, we are not alone. God comes for us when we are in trouble, and saves us. The fact that the storm dies down shows that God has all power of the world. There is nothing he cannot do. This is the forgiveness of God in action.

5. Rom 10:9: "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

This passage refers to how we can receive the complete forgiveness of God. The way is Jesus. The first part of the verse tells us that we must tell the world that Jesus Christ is the Lord! This is a demand by God to spread the good news of Christ. The second part tells us that we must believe, through and through that he was raised to heaven. Then we are saved!
